Congratulations to Huon Ka Shun and Cheung Ho Kwan for securing the first runner-up position at the Competition on System Modeling & Optimization (COSMO) 2025. Competing against 42 high-caliber teams, they demonstrated exceptional performance and were awarded a cash prize of HKD 2,000.
The competition featured a case study focused on designing mathematical models and algorithms to optimize cryptocurrency payment systems, with a particular emphasis on Bitcoin’s scalability challenges. Ka Shun and Ho Kwan approached the task with a blend of advanced programming techniques and rigorous mathematical solutions. Their ability to present and defend their ideas during the finals showcased their competitiveness, in-depth knowledge, and innovative thinking.
COSMO is co-organized by the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Association for Computer Education. The competition aims to inspire students to enhance their skills in mathematics, system modeling, and the application of computer technology to solve real-world problems.
